About this WebSite

Introduction

Welcome to the new MorningGloryArt. In reality, the old MorningGloryArt is still where it always was: MorningGloryArt Decorative Painting . What is “new” is that starting in 2008, everything new on the MorningGloryArt website will be right here, in this WordPress blog: Art & Decorative Painting . So, starting in 2008, if you want to see Marcia’s latest painting projects and class schedules, or the most recent art class photos, etcetera, this is where you need to go. Plus, this new blog will incorporate more photography, for example, Marcia’s bird photographs.

WordPress

Simply put, WordPress is blogging software. Or, if you prefer, in their words: WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. WordPress generates dynamic XHTML pages utilizing PHP server-side scripting language and a MySQL database. For this website, WordPress is used primarily as a Content Management System (CMS). Themes

Themes are a collection of templates. In this web site, the themes utilized are by Rebecca Wei, aka ‘Beccary’, aka ‘Becca’. Five of Becca’s themes are used:

  • Almost Spring
  • Dusk
  • Ocadia
  • Remember
  • Thirteen

The default theme is Thirteen.

Extensive modifications have been made to the theme templates - many are no longer recognizable as Becca’s. Nevertheless, the basic CSS layout with background images and color was and remains Becca’s. Please note that the content of the site - images and text in the posts - is the same irrespective of which theme you use. Theme Switcher

The theme switcher, used with one minor modification, is by Ryan Boren. A browser cookie keeps track of which theme you are viewing. If cookies are cleared, then the default theme Thirteen is used. Ryan Boren’s Blog

Navigation

Everything posted on this blog shows up at the top of the blog ‘Home Page’ aka the blog ‘Front Page’, and here it is labeled: What’s New ?!? - HomePage.

Every post is assigned a Category. If, for example, you click ‘Birds - Photographs’ in the sidebar navigation under ‘Categories’, you will see only the posts that have been assigned to that category, with the most recent at the top.

Every post also has its own page. Simply click the post ‘Title’ and you are taken to a Single Post page - convenient for printing or for linking to a single post using the URL in the browser address bar.

At the top of every page is the blog title: Art & Decorative Painting. Clicking this text always returns you to the What’s New ?!? - HomePage. Also, there is an additional link to the blog home page labeled as ‘What’s New ?!?’ located under ‘Categories’ in the sidebar navigation.

At the top of every page is a mini-Marcia Brown image. Clicking that image takes you to the original website home page: MorningGloryArt Decorative Painting.

Printing

A separate print style sheet has been incorporated into this blog. If you want to print a painting project or a bird photograph, simply click the ‘Title’ of the post which then takes you to a Single Post page, and print in the normal fashion from your browser. Note that the sidebar navigation, the footer, and other extraneous stuff is automatically excluded from both the ‘Print Preview’ and from actual printing. Typically, a Single Post will fit on a single sheet of paper. Almost too easy.
